*tumbleweed drifts by*

Hello ? anyone there ???
Man it has been so long since I updated. I think the main reason being that I've watched a film literally every day for the past few months so I've been overloaded with content and have even forgot my opinion of things !
Secondly my energy for being a reviewer kind of fizzled out (very quickly I know).

I do intend on updating again at some point however so this isn't the end of Kit Review by any means - stay tuned !

"The Resident" (USA, 2010)

It's horror time ! HAMMER horror, but is it still like Hammer ? Must be, look there's even Christopher Lee ! But wait, it's not even really horror, more like an average voyeuristic thriller, still though there is Hilary Swank not wearing much (look she got to me since Karate Kid 4 okay) oh and some fun with a nail gun !
This film does the trick, it does what it set out to do which is hold your attention long enough for it's duration to pass, make some creaky noises in a dark spooky flat and give you that unnerving feeling of being watched. It just feels like we've seen it's type many times before. In fact it's quite apt that it comes from ancient horror label Hammer because it feels pretty old school, like it could of and probably was made years ago, other than Swank & her groovy android phone reminding you that it's modern day, it just feels old & more than a little stale. Like I said however, it does it's job adeptly enough. A glance at the films poster alone gives away the proceedings pretty much so no points for surprising outcomes but an enjoyable thriller none the less !

"Due Date" (USA, 2010)

Look ! It's Tony Stark and that fat beardy guy from the Hangover ! You've seen the Hangover right ??? Well this isn't as funny as the Hangover sorry, but it's getting there.
Well by now I think we all like Robert Downy Jr.(RDJ), we've accepted him. He's like an old friend we used to know who moved away somewhere for a few years, came back and is still a familiar lovable fellow. Recently having very decent performances in Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes is fair enough but how is he in Due Date ? Well he plays a slightly arrogant every man, who's a little hyper or mentally repressed maybe but under the circumstances he deals with most incidents rather well. And that's what this film is; a series of highly awkward, uncomfortable, & near fatal incidents caused almost entirely by the emotionally deranged, accident prone and hapless wannabe actor Ethan Tremblay/Chase(Zach Galifianakis). I say almost entirely because things seem to run smoothly until these two men are put together, like flammable liquids to a fire when combined there's a potential hazard and that's when the hilarity ensues here. Due Date refers to RDJ's journey from Atlanta to Los Angeles to be present at the birth of his first child. Will he make it ? Or will he be too late/humiliated/emotionally scarred/arrested/seriously wounded when he loses his wallet and agrees to get into a car with Ethan, his masturbating dog plus freshly cremated father contained in a coffee tin ...
I like this directors refreshing humour definitely. I'm sure you will too if you need cheering up and liked his previous films Road Trip, Starsky & Hutch and The Hangover. A well rounded giggle-fest of slightly mis-matched but fun characters that does just enough to entertain the whole journey.

PLUS POINTS: awesome soundtrack & driving stoned sequence !

"The Legend of Bruce Lee" TV Show (China, 2008)

I promise that it's because I have just finished viewing this show that I chose it for my first review, and not because he is .... MY HERO !!! Really I'm not biased ...

Here is the story oh so loosely based upon the life of Bruce Lee, someone whom I hope is familiar to you. But let's get down to actually why this was made. China the self-appointed centre of the world since the Beijing Olympics, decided recently it needs a role model for it's people, and not just any role model, since he's from China, he's Chinese. Seemingly China is just realising that from all the museums and statues popping up. Why only recently ? Was it forgotten who & how influential Bruce has been for the world the last 30 plus years ??? Perhaps that explains the amnesia, because Lee is/was such a global personality, and not really China's one and only son.
Regardless, choosing Bruce Lee as a hero for the nation is a no-brainer; a person with resonating charisma, who truly believed in himself and his ability to overcome all odds no matter how they are stacked against him. I believe Bruce and his outlook on life is a most important aspiration to us all not only in his day but more now than ever and in future times as we try to stay focused to our goals, dreams and evolution.

So whether you have an interest in martial arts or not, the subject matter is undoubtedly appealing, but trust me it really helps if you do because these 3 hours chopped into 50 episodes consist of quite a lot of face punching or kicking, bodies flailing through the air and winces of pain. So how is the action ? Well pretty good for fake looking martial arts actually. A raw physicality of ex dance instructor and Bruce Lee lookey-likey, Danny Chan, is brought to the small screen certainly convincing enough. He's definitely done some homework in imitating the minutia of Bruce's facial expressions and body language at least. Ok so with the latter mentioned, we believe he's Bruce, the less I mention of the other actors the better although brawling film fans should notice brief competent appearances by Gary Daniels, Mark Dacascos and Ray Park. I will mention however that I was watching the terribly dubbed english version, so please try to avoid that if you can.
However seems there's some problem with the distribution rights to this as three years on it stills awaits DVD release anywhere outside China. And lastly speaking of China; I think it could actually distance others against the show to pound this patriotic nationalism into it's proceedings because that only really occurred in his film "Fist of Fury" set during the Japanese invasion of WWII. I know he experienced extreme forms of racism especially during his lifetime but more than he ever exclaimed "I AM CHINESE !!!" Bruce would always mention that he was and wanted to be remembered as a "human being", something we can all celebrate.
