King of New York (USA, 1990)

I learned two important things from this movie, firstly when two groups of people that think they are morally right and that the other is definitely wrong clash, very bad things start happening. And secondly, perhaps more importantly, never mess with Christopher Walken ...

And so to the movie, I don't really see what there is to not like about this; it is set in the dark city streets of New York, it's way under 2 hours long, it has a retro feel, a B-movie italian director, a bouncy 80's hip-hop soundtrack, Wesley Snipes VS. Laurence Fishburne and oh Mr.Walken in GANGSTER MODE !!!

Many brilliant scenes in this including the ginger fellow from CSI toasting said king to his already pissed and guilt ridden Chief; "every time Frank kills someone it's our fault".

Seriously check this out, it's moody, bleak and yet, like it's anti-hero Frank White, it genuinely wants to do the right thing, albeit in a blood soaked path of general destruction kind of way. Also ... it stars Chris Walken !!!

King of New York is available to pre order on steelbook special edition blu-ray from ARROW VIDEO right now here and also on DVD for bloody ages !
